So, how safe is your property in Italy?
Comparative data is hard to find. Different countries present their statistics in very different formats, which makes international comparisons notoriously difficult. However, after a brief review of various online data sources we can offer the following information. These are official government figures from 1991, the latest date for which we could find reliable data - so they shouldn't be viewed as a precise guide to the world of 2004:
| Per 100,000 population: | Italy | Germany | UK | USA |
| Burglary | 357 | 2337 ** | 2110 | 1252 |
