  Vacation Rental Description

Ca’ Giona is a fully restored, traditional old stone farmhouse set in the leafy, rolling vineyards and woodlands between Acqui Terme, Canelli and Nizza Monferrato. It sits on a beautiful hillside beneath a small hamlet and opposite the medieval village of Montabone. From its shady portico and from every room there are magnificent views over the valleys, hills and vineyards - on clear days you can see the Ligurian Alps.

Romantic, rural and remote, Ca’ Giona is an ideal rental for couples, friends, or adult families.

The house was modernised and restored to a very high standard in 2005. While respecting every aspect of the history of the house, the owners have created an airy, bright atmosphere that feels modern and takes great advantage of the wonderful Italian light and the open views. The interior is painted cream and white with classic red terracotta floors throughout and is furnished with a mix of comfortable new beds and old country chests and chairs. There are six rooms and a large barn. The ground floor has a fully equipped fitted kitchen, a cosy sitting room and a second living room arranged as a studio/ library. On the first floor there are 3 double bedrooms, a large bathroom and a balcony.

  • Entrance Room/ Studio
This large entrance room has been arranged with a desk, bookcases, games and guidebooks ranged round the walls to leave lots of free space.

  • Sitting Room
The cosy sitting room has a wood stove, a sofa, 2 armchairs and a large coffee table. In winter it is the perfect place for peaceful evenings of reading and enjoying the local wine; in summer you might prefer to sit outside on the portico to watch fireflies dance, or look out for shooting stars.

  • Hall
Off the hall there is a second wc/ basin

  • Kitchen
The bespoke kitchen, created by a local craftsman, has a gas hob, an electric oven, a dishwasher, a fridge-freezer and a good range of cooking utensils. The kitchen table seats 6, and there are 6 very comfortable wicker chairs.

  • Barn
Off the kitchen and running along the back of the house is the original barn area. This has been left in its original condition and is ideal for extra storage. There is a laundry area, with washing machine, laundry sink, ironing board and iron, plus a drying rack.

  • Portico
Double doors from the kitchen lead to the large shady portico with its views to the vineyards and the mountains. A large marble table seats up to 8 people, ideal for breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the summer months.

  • Bedroom 1
The double-aspect main bedroom has a queen-sized double bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers: the window to the south east overlooks the vineyards, and a French balcony to the south has views to the Ligurian Alps.

  • Bedroom 2
The second bedroom has a queen-sized double bed (arranged with 2 single mattresses for easy sharing), a clothes rail, chest of drawers and basin.

  • Bedroom 3
This bedroom opens from the Balcony. It is the largest, with a queen-sized double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and the benefit of two sets of double doors giving a double aspect view.

  • First Floor Bathroom
The large family bathroom has a wc, bidet, handbasin with large mirror, and a shower.

Swimming Pool and terrace
To the right of the drive down to the house, in its own dedicated area, the swimming pool is 10x5 metres in size, 1.2m deep overall, with a custom-built ‘sitting’ area created with deep stone steps. There is a pool house with 6 sunbeds and a broad terrace, all finished in local stone. It has been designed to fit in well in this unique hillside position surrounded by walnut and acacia trees: the outer edge leads back to the hillside.

Car parking/ access
The house is reached via a solid concrete driveway, and there is plenty of space to park on the grass beside it.

The Area

Apart from its glorious landscapes and unspoiled local towns, this area is renowned for its wines – Barbara, Dolcetto and Gavi are local, Barolo and Barbaresco just an hour drive away. Fine cheeses, wonderful cured meats and porcini mushrooms in season all add to Piedmont’s reputation as a gourmet paradise. Within 2 hours of both the famous Northern Lakes and the sunny pleasures of the Ligurian coastline, the ancient, historic cities of Genoa, Turin and Milan are also within easy reach.

Additional Vacation Rental Features
The house and pool area are all on an open hillside, and the terracing drops away from the house without barriers. That factor, together with the steep driveway and many stone steps for access to the pool, combine to make this property very unsuitable for small children and the less able-bodied.

Please be aware that there is no internet connection or TV at the house. The power supply is reliable providing users refrain from turning on all the big machines (washing/ dishwasher/ oven) at the same time.

Bedding Arrangements
Three bedrooms each with a double bed
