"Casa degli Orsi" - Orsara Bormida, Piedmont, Italy

Casa degli Orsi is located on the edge of the picturesque hilltop village of Orsara Bormida to the east of the famous Roman spa town of Acqui Terme. At a height of 228 metres above sea level, the southwest-facing property offers exceptional views over the vineyards to the Alps on the border with France over 100 kilometers away.

Larger towns such as Asti, Alba and Alessandria are all within easy reach. Genoa is less than an hour away, and Milan can be reached in 90 minutes. To the south the beaches of the Italian Riviera can be reached in 45 minutes, while France is about a 2 hour drive to the west.

The property is situated along a small village road, and a huge antique wooden gate and a tall stone wall give the property total privacy. The property comprises two antique houses, Romeo and Juliet, that face eachother across a shared courtyard. Lovingly restored over the past 3 years, the formerly derelict buildings have been brought up to the highest modern standards. By using natural materials such as Mediterranean chestnut, hand-made bricks and local granite, the buildings have retained their historic authenticity.

Excellent terracotta floors, rough stone walls, weathered antique beams, antique doors and carefully-chosen furniture combined with decorative modern art and subtle Mediterranean colours give the buildings their unique character and create a positive ambience throughout.

The main house, Romeo, sleeps 4 and can be rented either alone or in combination with one or more of the 3 double bedrooms located within Juliet, the other house.

The property offers the following accommodation:

• Romeo (270 m²)
  
  Romeo is on three floors with a total area of 270 square metres, and comprises a large country kitchen with an open-plan dining room, a very spacious sitting room with an antique French fireplace and French windows onto a terrace offering stunning views, a gallery, a study with internet access, a double bedroom with double aspect and stunning views, and a second twin bedroom - each with its own bathroom.
  
  The kitchen has a gas range cooker with 5 rings, twin sinks, a fridge/freezer and a full range of utensils; a microwave is available on demand. It also includes a washing machine with a separate tumble drier.

• Juliet (170 m²)
  
  Juliet, also on three floors, has a total area of 170 square metres and comprises three more bedrooms, each for two people and each with its own bathroom. One of the bedrooms has a romantic four-poster bed, and two of the rooms have their own roof terrace. One is on the ground floor with access to the courtyard and is suitable for less able-bodied guests. They all share a breakfast room with a breakfast making facility, and a sunny balcony.
  
  The rooms in Juliet can only be rented in combination with the main house, Romeo.

The Grounds

The courtyard includes a magnificent private terrace the overlooks the countryside to the west of the village. The terrace is equipped with a table and chairs for al freso dining, or simply for relaxing with a glass of the local wine.

Parking

Although the courtyard is accessible to motor vehicles, we recommend that for day-to-day parking guests use the main village square less than 100 metres away.
