"Cascina La Famó" - San Marzano Oliveto, Piedmont, Italy

Cascina La Famó, set in a peaceful, rural location about a kilometer from the small hilltop village of San Marzano Oliveto, is a fully-renovated, 200 year old farmhouse that is surrounded by vineyards on all sides. Situated in the heart of Italy's most productive wine region, Cascina La Famó is in an ideal place from which to explore the attractions of this unique region. There are five excellent restaurants nearby - two of them within walking distance - as well as numerous wine-producers that offer tours and wine tastings.

The beautiful, unspoilt 5 hectare (12.5 acre) estate at Cascina La Famó includes 2.5 hectares of organic hazelnut trees as well as Moscato and Freisa vineyards, apple orchards and numerous olive trees.

The wine towns of Nizza Monferrato and Canelli are both about a 10 minute drive away. Larger towns such as Asti, Alba and Acqui Terme are all within easy reach. Genoa and Turin are both about an hour away, and Milan can be reached in 90 minutes. To the south the beaches of the Italian Riviera are within easy reach, while the mountains on the border with France are about a 90 minute drive to the west.

The farmhouse offers the following accommodation:

• Apartment 'Alba' (45m²)
  
  Apartment 'Alba' has a double bedroom with a double bed, a wardrobe and a balcony with a view over the adjacent vineyards. The modern bathroom has a handbasin and a separate section with a large shower and WC. The charming sitting / dining room is equipped with two sofas and a Tuscan cupboard kitchen. It also contains an antique dining table with six chairs. The first-floor apartment is accessed via an external stairway and its own front door; it has the exclusive use of a small outdoor terrace.
  
  The kitchen has a gas hob with 4 rings, a small fridge, a basin and a full range of utensils; a microwave is available on demand.

• Apartment 'Asti' (40m²)
  
  This comfortable first-floor apartment is accessed via an internal stairway. It has a bedroom with a double bed and a wardrobe, plus a modern bathroom with a large shower, WC and handbasin. The pleasant sitting / dining room is equipped with a sofa bed, an antique extendable dining table with four chairs, and a French balcony with a view over the neighbouring vineyards.
  
  The modern, fitted kitchen area has a gas hob with 4 rings, a fridge, a washing machine and a full range of kitchen utensils. A microwave is available on demand.

Both Apartments

Each apartment is equipped with satellite TV with all free-to-air Astra-1 and Hotbird channels, an RJ-45 ethernet socket for unlimited ADSL internet access at no extra charge, and a telephone for free local calls.

The Gardens and Grounds

Between the 10th of May and the 10th of October our guests can enjoy our modern, sun-drenched 15 x 5m swimming pool. The substantial terrace that surrounds the pool has has panoramic views to the south and east; a cabin changing room, loungers and sun umbrellas are available, plus a table and chairs. Guests are also welcome to roam around our orchards and vineyards.
